Giosuè Carducci, the famous Italian poet who received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1906, was born in Valdicastello on the 27th July 1835. The family¿s house was composed of four rooms in the building, those facing the stream; they contain furniture that belonged to the poet and was donated by his daughter to the Municipality of Pietrasanta.Since 1907, when the poet died, the Municipality of Pietrasanta has organised several solemn commemorations, the most important of which in 1985 for the 150th anniversary of his birth. Besides since 1950 a yearly competition, the ¿Premio Nazionale di Poesia Giosuè Carducci¿ exists and to this a second competition, reserved to the pupils of secondary schools in Versilia, has been added in 1990.
